Rupite is а village situated 20 km southwest of the town of Melnik. It is famous for the home and the grave of the well-known Bulgarian prophet Vanga. According to her the whole area of Rupite is filled with cosmic energy. Based on Vanga’s idea the church of  "St. Petka" was built in the village of Rupite.
Melnik is the smallest and one of the most fascinating towns-museums in Bulgaria. Original wine cellars are excavated in the sand pyramids, which surround the town on all sides. The old Melnik houses are impressive with their architecture. The more popular of them is Kordopoulov`s - the biggest residential building on the Balkan Peninsula from the Revival Period, in possession of extraordinary mural paintings and an enormous wine-cellar.
Тhe Rozhen monastery is one of the few medieval monasteries, which has preserved its original appearance and authentic architecture. It is to be found 6 km east of Melnik and it is one of the biggest monasteries in Bulgaria which was built in 1220. The miraculous icon of Virgin Mary is one of the monastery treasures.
